Short answer
USB is the simpler route for plug-and-play PC, gaming, streaming and office products. A dual XLR/USB platform adds flexibility for buyers who want both direct computer use and integration with audio interfaces or mixers. The best OEM choice depends on the end user, required controls, supported configuration, package contents and target price.
Choose USB when
- The product must work directly with a computer.
- The user expects simple setup and onboard controls.
- Gaming, streaming, online meetings or entry-level podcasting is the main use.
- The retail package should contain a complete desktop solution.
Choose XLR/USB when
- The target user may add an interface, mixer or studio workflow.
- The product needs two connection paths in one platform.
- The brand is targeting creator or prosumer positioning.
- The buyer is prepared to explain cable and power requirements clearly.

Questions to settle before sampling
What does “USB microphone” not tell the factory?
It does not define supported sampling configuration, pickup pattern, monitoring, controls, lighting, noise-reduction features, housing, stand, cable or software environment. Include these items in the RFQ.
Is XLR automatically better?
No. It is a different connection workflow. A buyer should evaluate whether the intended customer owns or understands external audio equipment. For many gaming and office users, a complete USB product is more appropriate.
Can one product support both?
Yes, when the selected platform is designed for USB and XLR output. Confirm the exact electronic configuration and both paths on the approved sample.
What should appear in the retail guide?
Show the correct cable, connection method, controls, monitoring path, operating system notes and any external-equipment requirements. Clear instructions reduce support problems after launch.
Compare a USB or XLR/USB direction
Send the use case, target market, quantity and required connection. JRT Audio will confirm suitable current platforms and sampling information.
